About us

A Punjabi kitchen in the middle of Calgary

Desi Hood cooks the way food is cooked at home in Punjab — patiently, generously and with a lot of ghee on the roti.

Our story

We opened Desi Hood in Savanna, northeast Calgary because we missed the food we grew up with: choley bhature on a slow morning, saag with makki di roti in winter, karahi paneer that still bubbles when it reaches the table.

So we built a kitchen around it. Fresh masalas, slow cooked daal, breads off the tawa and the tandoor, chaat put together at the counter, and sweets made the way your nani would recognise.

The tiffin service grew out of the same idea. Truckers and working families kept asking for a proper home style meal to take with them, so we started packing sabji, daal and fulke hot and fresh every day.

What we stand on

Home style cooking

Masalas ground fresh, daal makhni left to slow cook, sabji made in small batches the way it is done in a Punjabi home.

Made fresh to order

Nothing sits waiting. Rotis and pronthe are rolled when you order and naan goes straight into the tandoor.

Generous portions

Plates and tiffins are packed to feed you properly, whether it is dinner at home or a long day on the road.
